Round One: Facing Off Against Teenage Acne

I've always had pretty clear skin, even through my teenage years.  But THEN I hit my 30's and the breakouts began.  Not really sure what is triggering it all - I've tried eliminating certain foods from diet, adding other nutrients, and nothing seems to work.  Then about 2 years ago I tried Proactiv and it's just been really hard on my skin although it does "dry it up".  Now I am on a mission to find something that won't kill my skin but fights the breakouts too.  I figured I would share my experiences as I experiment with different products over the next few months.  I've been told you really have to wait a full 6 weeks to know if something really works or not so it will definitely be a long process.  So far so good though!  First up in my bathroom cabinet is Clinique Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer.  Phew, that's a LONG name!  I've been continuing only with my Proactive cleanser and using this in the morning and at night instead of the rest of the Proactiv routine.  I've really noticed a difference so far but I'll keep you posted!  If anyone has any ideas for me, I'm open for suggestions!

Crumb Free Ballet

My 6-year old began taking ballet this past month and she is absolutely loving it.  She is having fun at class and I am enjoying making new friends with the other "ballet moms".  It really has become one of the sweetest parts of our week - mainly because of her beaming smile as we come and go.  Last week, as I pulled her crumb filled ballet shoes out of my tote filled with snacks, water bottes, and homework, I decided she needed a separate bag for her little white shoes.  This is what I came up with today.  She really loved it when I showed it to her and now, hopefully, her shoes will be crumb free. =)

Made with Minky Sewing Project

Last winter Brooke & I designed fabric for our Z. Daisy product line and had so much fun!  Throughout the entire process we kept thinking about the possibility of selling our fabric to retail customers through  Esty.  (We wouldn't ever consider selling it wholesale as we only want our products to be produced in our prints.) Yet there are so many handmade items that would be fantastic in the minky fabric.  It is the softest fabric I have ever owned and it would be so unique when applied "unconventionally".  All that to say, this month we will begin posting some different project ideas made with our exclusive Z. Daisy fabric.  I thought it might be fun to start with a project from one of my favorite sewing books, Bend-the-Rules Sewing.  So, here's the little turtle project from that book Made with Minky (paired with an Amy Butler  quilting solid):

 

This little guy has quickly become one of my sons favorite little toys.  He has some fond childhood memories of his early life in Liberia that involved turtles so this one is extra special to him.  Be sure to check back again soon as we'll be posting more fun projects that are Made with Minky!!
